Offering language courses in:  AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE -ARABIC - CHINESE - FRENCH - GERMAN - LATIN - PORTUGUESE - RUSSIAN - SPANISH - ITALIAN - KOREAN
Capital Region Language Center (CRLC) is happy to announce an ESL
initiative with Rensselaer that began in January of 2012.  This program has been
created in collaboration with Rensselaer's Department of Human Resources.

Current Program Details:

Thirty hours of class on campus at RPI meeting once per week from 5:30-7:30 PM, for 15 weeks. 

·         Level 1: Beginning English

Goals: Using all four literacy skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) lessons and exercises will focus on basic language needed for daily living, workplace, and civic competence
$25 registration fee
Course fee:  $240 due up front or $48 per month for 5 months
Book fee:  About $30
Class size:  12-15

 

·         Level 2: English for Conversation

Goals: Using all four literacy skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) lessons and exercises will focus on building confidence with language necessary for simple conversation with co-workers.
$25 registration fee
Course fee:  $240 due up front or $48 per month for 5 months
Book fee:  About $30
Class size: 12-15

 

·         Level 3: Fine Tuning English Usage

Goals: Fine-tuning of common grammatical errors and vocabulary growth.
$25 registration fee
Course fee:  $480 due up front or $96 per month for 5 months
Book fee:  About $30
Class size:  6-12

 

·         Level 4: Adding a U.S. Accent to your Speech Repertoire

Goals: Students will practice listening to and speaking the rhythm, stress and intonation of U.S. English in a group setting. The goal here is NOT to lose your accent, but to learn to correct the transfers from your first language that make it difficult for native U.S. speakers to understand you.
$25 registration fee

Class size:  6-12
